OUR ETHOS

We live off grid on a small Caribbean Island. We know that our existence has impact and are dedicated to consciously co-existing within the structure of the natural world. Subsequently, Roam Yoga & Wellness committed to ecological practices at the start of our build and continue to do so daily.

solar power

We run on power from the sun and are powered by 24 solar Panels and a back up generator. In addition to our solar panels, the lighting throughout the retreat and along the dock is also solar powered. We also used LED bulbs throughout the property to limit our consumption. All our fans and electronic devices are powered by DC motors to consume less energy throughout your stay.

Water collection & filtration

As we are 100% off grid all our water comes from rain. Each building on Roam is triple filtered to keep you drinking safe and clean water during your stay. The water then passes through an additional UV Filter which is tested regularly to ensure you have the freshest water for drinking right from the tap. We highly recommend guests bring their own reusable water bottles as you will not find plastic water bottles for sale on-site.

single use plastics

In addition to providing drinking water and making the purchase of plastic water bottles unnecessary; we provide locally made bio-degradable hand soap and body wash. We are conscious that every product we choose to use on the property goes directly back into the earth and feel its important to provide the best products we can with the least impact.

the garden

Our garden encompasses entirety of our land, from cultivated crops such as jackfruit and cacao, to wild mushrooms and dasheen. The garden is the heart and soul of Roam. Not only is our property a sanctuary for botanical goodness, but it is home to a caiman family, many birds, some snakes, frogs, insects, and the yoga sloths. We care for our plants in concert with nature; so expect to can find both curated garden beds and wild jungle entropy at its’ finest. In addition, we strive to have at least one Roam grown element on every plate we serve in our eatery, Juntos.

our food

Juntos, our eatery, is proud to serve fresh, local, organic, and home grown food each and every meal. We pride ourselves on ‘jungle to table’ cuisine and one can expect to eat at least one Roam Grown delicacy with each meal. We grow bananas, chaya, katuk, breadfruit, jackfruit, starfruit, a host of herbs and medicinal plants just to name a few. We source all our food from the closest range possible. Our produce is exclusively from the Bocas del Toro region, our greens come direct from Boquete and are often on your plate the same day they are harvested. Our seafood is all local fresh catch from the archipelago. We know jungle to table is best and strive to serve you small batch high quality food daily.

Employment

Mindful Employment is an integral part of our sustainability plan. Our entire staff is currently from Isla Solarte. We also work to purchase products and services from people living in neighboring islands. We know that keeping financial resources in the area is best practice for positive impact in the local economy.
