One Night in Panama City:

How to Make the Most of 12-24 Hours

If you only have one night in Panama City, Panama, don’t worry—you can still soak in its rich history, vibrant food scene, and unforgettable skyline. Here’s how to experience the best of the city in just a few hours.

Casco Viejo

Start your evening in Casco Viejo, the historic heart of Panama City. Its cobblestone streets, colonial plazas, and pastel-colored buildings set the perfect scene for a sunset walk. Pop into artisan shops, admire the churches, and enjoy the mix of old-world charm and modern energy. If you prefer wide-open views, the Cinta Costera waterfront promenade offers a breezy stroll with panoramic views of the skyline.

Dinner Time

Food is one of Panama City’s strongest suits, and even one meal can be unforgettable.

• For foodies:

Try Fonda Lo Que Hay, known for playful takes on Panamanian classics, or Maito, consistently ranked among the top restaurants in Latin America.

• For something cultural:

Head to Diablico’s, where you can taste traditional dishes while watching folkloric dance shows.

• Seafood lovers:

Don’t miss Nazca 21, a Peruvian restaurant with incredible ceviche

Rooftops & Nightlife

After dinner, elevate your evening at one of Casco Viejo’s famous rooftop bars. Tantalo and Selina are lively and social, while CasaCasco offers multiple restaurants under one roof plus panoramic skyline views. For something more relaxed, grab a local craft beer at La Rana Dorada.

If you’re craving music and dancing, Casco’s salsa bars and lounges keep the energy going until late.

A Glimpse of the Canal

If time allows, consider a night visit to the Panama Canal. While the Miraflores Visitor Center usually closes in the evening, some tours provide after-dark views of ships navigating one of the world’s great engineering marvel

Where to Sleep

We recommend staying in either Caso Viejo, or the Albook area to be close to your domestic flight from Aeropuerto Internacional Marcos A. Gelabert(Albrook) airport if you are on the way to Bocas. If you are leaving Panama we recommend you explore the Casco Viejo area but stay closer to the Tocuman International Airport. we always enjoy staying at the hotel Riande Aeropuerto Hotel for its large pool, hidden orchids, and cats.
